The branzino fish is also referred to as the European sea bass. Most of the Branzino consumed in the U.S. is farmed in the Mediterranean Sea. However, branzino farming operations are typically done in ocean-based large cages, where the wastes are not properly disposed of. Hence, chemicals are needed to combat the diseases that may affect this species.
Despite the relatively low level of mercury in branzino, it is still only recommended for pregnant women to eat one to two servings of fish a week.
